On Saturday 31st of August and Sunday 1st of September 2013 the Harbourfestival IJmuiden presents a unique and free event around the harbour of IJmuiden.
The location for this event consists of old factory premises and peculiar ships. The scenery accommodates a wide range of events like youth and street theatres, concerts of pop, world and classical music, fine arts, poetry and film.
The harbour festival IJmuiden is a cultural and nautical event which annually takes place in their beautiful fishing harbour.
All day long Shanty choirs will be heard singing, swinging rhythms from Caribbean singers and orchestras will be heard everywhere, old ships can be visited, and so on.
THE SETTING OF THE HARBOUR FESTIVAL
The festival site is set directly in the middle of the unique and characteristic fishing harbour in IJmuiden. All the activities of the Harbour Festival take place at the Trawlerkade, right up to the lighthouse and fishing harbour. On weekdays, the harbour is filled with the hustle and bustle of the fishing and transshipment industry. During the weekend pedestrians and cyclists are drawn to the harbour and marvel at all the boats and ships. You wouldn’t normally associate the harbour and its users with the world of the performing arts. So it is quite a challenge to confront these people with this world and to overcome the distance.
